Due to God’s grace, we have been spared. Jesus said “Let he who is guilty of no sin cast the first stone”. Since we are all guilty of sin, and all sin is equal in God’s eyes, it is not fair to attempt to take on God’s role by taking away someone else’s only chance to repent. From a religious position, Christians are called to love others as much as they love themselves , and to try to be examples of Christ . Although it is impossible to live a sinless, Christ-like life, it’s a known fact that Jesus forgave the sins of all people , murderers included. Punishing a person for their crimes is a good way of keeping control on earth and enforcing discipline. However, thinking outside of the earthly realm, sentencing someone to eternal damnation is a serious situation which most Christians would agree would not be something anyone would want to be held responsible for.
