Burger King Restaurants was started in Miami,Florida as a single restaurant in 154. The intention of the founder was to create a restaurant where fast service,good food and reasonable pricing were priorities. The Fast-food craze had begun and the chance to expand and experiment in this business had too.


Location plays a massive part in any business as one can not survive on word of mouth alone. A hopeful franchise owner must have something that complies with the criteria for a site ; 5 000+ square feet , on a corner , high traffic on two major streets around it and good visibility for signage and building.

So that’s a possible reason to Wynnton Road’s being different but Gentian Avenue’s is rather odd looking too.The round windows like portholes and railings on top of the building give me the impression of some sort of a boat , like a yacht or ocean liner. Was the architect himself a keen sailor and was inspired by a ship or is he merely appealing to the traveler? Whatever the reason , the size makes it difficult to avoid.





The big Burger King signs outside the restaurants are unmistakable and pose as a simple but effective advertising agent. The large parking lot of the Gentian Avenue’s Burger King serves as a subconscience lure as well. The lot will most likely never be full which leads one into thinking that the restaurant is not as busy as it actually seems.


Being a tourist myself, I am naturally drawn towards the mammoth Gentian Avenue Burger King because I don’t have one back home. However, the cosy looking Wynnton Road Burger King appeals more to me because it’s what im used to.
