In April of 15, when Benjamin was about twenty-seven years old he received his first composing offer. In the future, Benjamin wanted to compose operas, which would help him achieve his goal. In this job Benjamin met W.H Auden. Britten loved Auden’s poetries, he used them in “Hymm to St. Cecilia” They became really good friends! But, Auden went to the United States. Ben was trying to decide whether to leave England, and go with his friend Peter Pears to the United States, he decided to go to the United States. But, he only lived there for about two or three years. He came back to England! On his trip home he wrote “Hymm to Cecilia.” After that in 14 he composed a piece called “Rejoice in the Lamb.” He did a great job at that!

In 168, Benjamin came down with a disease. This disease let valvular heart-lesion get discovered, the doctors thought it was caused by fevers when he was a child. Benjamin always had a lot of pain in his left arm when composing. That was caused by his disease.


Peter Pears was one of Benjamin’s really good friends, and Peter didn’t want Benjamin to lose his confidence in his music when he was sick. Benjamin took about one year off of composing. After he did that he wanted to conquer his last piece called “Death in Venice.” Benjamin did not want surgery until he conquered his last opera. But, when it came to 17, Benjamin had surgery to replace a heart valve. When Death in Venice, was performed, he had to be wheeled out onto a cart just to see it .


Benjamin was a very loving and caring composer. He loved music, even though he didn’t have a family, he was still happy! When it came to December 4, 176, Benjamin Britten went to rest in piece. He had a great life!
